Calculate your pigeon's race velocity

Convert the measured distance from liberation point to loft and the bird's elapsed flight time into YPM or MPM using liberation and arrival times.

Pigeon velocity calculator

Enter the measured race distance with the liberation and arrival times.

Decimal comma or point accepted.

Race clock times

If arrival is earlier than liberation, it is treated as arrival on the following day.

Velocity is distance divided by total elapsed time, including seconds.

Use the right figures

Use the official measured distance—not the advertised race length—and the full elapsed time from liberation to clocking. Average velocity does not account for route, wind, or time spent away from the direct line.

How velocity is calculated

The calculator converts your distance into yards and meters, converts the complete flight time from liberation and arrival into minutes, then divides distance by time. It shows both common racing units along with km/h and mph for reference.

From one result to a useful record

A single velocity is a snapshot. Record the race date, distance, conditions, and result on the bird's profile, then compare repeated performances at similar distances. Over time, pedigree records can show whether consistent results cluster in particular family branches.
